Volunteer Management VISTA

Covenant House Alaska (CHA), offers a multitude of services focused on ending the experience of homelessness for youth. Services are focused on housing, well-being, and education and employment, with the philosophy that positive relationships are the agents of change. Youth are given immediate access to housing options, along with whatever is needed while we support them to become the BEST version of themselves. CHA’s Youth Engagement Center (YEC), a shelter and community center for young adults, is open 24 hours a day. It provides a safe place for basic needs to be met and tools for youth to work toward independence. Youth have access to a cafeteria, computer lab, gymnasium, clothing room, music room, art room and staff that provide case management, life skills coaching and relationship- building. In addition, CHA has on-site partners that provide additive services at no-cost to our young people. CHA’s shelter for minors, Minors Accessing Care & Kindness (MACK) House is a home that provides shelter for teens ages 13-17 who are experiencing homelessness. The street outreach team spends time on the streets getting to know youth and forging trusting relationships, and offering services to meet basic needs—food, water, clothes, rides to access medical care, etc. Rights of Passage is a transitional living program that provides supportive housing for youth ages 18-24. Passage House is a transitional living program for parenting/pregnant teens ages 17-24, and their children. Charlie Elder House is a residence for male youth ages 16-19 who are experiencing mental health or emotional challenges. Covey Lofts is a micro-unit apartment, giving youth ages 18-24 a longer-term place to stay while having full access to CHA’s services. Covey Academy offers student housing and workforce training with individualized services that ensure young people transition into meaningful careers and permanent housing.
