VHA - Thomas Jefferson Regional Affordable Housing VISTA

Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) AmeriCorps VISTA project is a statewide intermediary project with 18 Host Sites, all that either work to expand affordable housing opportunities and/or end homelessness throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VHA’s VISTA project aims to develop viable communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, suitable living environments, and expansive economic opportunities for low and moderate-income persons. This listing is to fill the Host Site opening at Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) in Charlottesville, VA. TJPDC, through the Central Virginia Regional Housing Partnership (CVRHP), advances regional coordination to address housing affordability and strengthen long-term economic resilience across Charlottesville, Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. The agency provides technical assistance to local governments, supports grant writing and compliance, and convenes regional stakeholders to align housing policy with the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. The TJPDC Regional Affordable Housing VISTA will build capacity by transforming regional housing data and strategy into actionable tools: developing an affordable housing toolkit, creating a centralized funding library, and launching a real-time housing dashboard that links housing supply, affordability, and workforce trends. The VISTA will also design and implement a communications strategy, including newsletters, events, and stakeholder engagement, to expand cross-sector collaboration among local governments, employers, developers, and community partners. By establishing shared systems, funding pathways, and data-driven decision-making infrastructure, the project equips the region to reduce cost burden, address workforce–housing mismatches, and expand access to safe, affordable housing for renters, rural residents, families, and essential workers.
