*Montana Community VISTA Partnership – YWCA Missoula

The overall goal of this project is to strengthen the programs and resources provided to low-income homeless families and survivors of domestic violence at the YWCA Missoula by strengthening partnerships with community organizations, increasing outreach and public awareness, and building internal capacity to better serve the needs of constituents. Family homelessness is an urgent, persistent, and increasing problem across Missoula County. The lack of affordable housing is the primary contributor to family homelessness, followed by domestic violence. Additional factors include issues of poverty and low wages that lead to cost-burdened households. The skyrocketing housing market highlights sub-sector issues such as mental health cutbacks, stagnant wages, and systemic racism, which affect the families and survivors. This VISTA project will move low-income women and children out of poverty by forming and strengthening partnerships with other service organizations and developing a foundational feedback loop with the constituents served at the YWCA, which will result in a holistic approach to supporting families in need and provide them with comprehensive resources to address their individual needs. Located in Missoula, MT.
