SJCA Volunteer Management Coordinator VISTA

St. Joseph Center (SJCA) is an established nonprofit in North Little Rock that works with communities throughout the Central Arkansas area. SJCA's mission is to preserve and restore a historic property through sustainable farming and food production and programs that educate to bring people out of poverty. The populations to be served include a broad spectrum of both those in need of outreach services as well as those who are in a position to help support charitable programming. SJCA teaches methods of food production in both large and small-scale agriculture, such as garden plots and green houses, vertical farming in small spaces, etc. This knowledge can directly impact food insecurity in the community. The intent is to increase participation in these educational opportunities by at least 10% each year, with the maximum capacity limited by available volunteers and donor/sponsors. Through the efforts of the Organizational Development and Volunteer Management VISTAs, SJCA will increase our capacity to promote programs to improve access to healthy foods by garnering resources both in manpower/volunteers and funding/donations. SJCA relies heavily on volunteers in every aspect of the operation and needs to build capacity to inform more people in the community of all of the volunteer opportunities and encourage them to participate.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Management Coordinator will create and implement a robust outreach and communication plan that will enhance SJCA’s ability to 1) promote available volunteer projects, 2) design a plan to recruit, track, manage, and acknowledge volunteers, and 3) increase the number of volunteers who serve at SJCA. The VISTA will develop and implement outreach and communication activities to draw in more volunteers and participants from the target community. By increasing capacity in these areas, the VISTA will contribute toward SCJA’s goal of serving residents of central Arkansas, particularly SNAP eligible individuals/families, who could benefit from access to locally grown produce and ability to grow their own food.
