National Youth Leadership Council - Education Equity VISTA

The Minnesota Alliance With Youth VISTA program places members in nonprofits, government, and schools to create, connect, and leverage resources to address education inequities such as the opportunity and achievement gaps. We build capacity, coordinate integration of school and community-wide support for youth, and actively engage youth as agents of change. Our cohort meets regularly for professional development, team building, and peer support. This position is placed at the National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC). For 40 years, NYLC has transformed classrooms, empowered teachers, and captivated students by leading the way in providing high-quality, dynamic service-learning content to school districts, classrooms, after-school programs, and everything in between. NYLC accelerates student achievement by strengthening academic, civic, and character outcomes through service-learning. Our Youth As Solutions Program supports youth teams from schools and nonprofits, along with adult educators, in completing a service-learning project or campaign over the course of the school year. Within Youth As Solutions, teams select an issue of focus; this VISTA will work with Education in Action teams who are addressing education equity and related social justice issues.

They will also revise NYLC’s youth toolkit from older print editions to create more effective digital versions with updated activities.
