MTCC Summer Human Resource Development Council

Since 1982, Gallatin Valley Food Bank’s (GVFB) mission has been to improve food security throughout Southwestern Montana. Their vision is to create a healthier, more resilient, food-secure community in which all of the members are empowered and have the means to nourish themselves. The Kids Summer Lunch Program provides free meals to children at locations across Bozeman, open to all kids 18 and under, this service is an essential support program for families when school is not in session to provide federal meal programs. GVFB has operated the Kids Summer Lunch program for the past twenty years, last year they distributed more than 22,000 meals over the 11-week program. The goal of this project is to support low-income families with kids under the age of 18 by providing meals in the summer months while school is not in session. As an additional impact, this project will increase the presence of fresh, healthy foods in the diets of low-income youth. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.
