American Red Cross EKY Flood Long Term Recovery Associates

The American Red Cross' Mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. After the emergency phase of a response has been completed, we turn to helping people recover and addressing lingering community needs. Working together with community leaders, government and relief agencies, we organize and execute recovery strategies that include providing emergency financial assistance in the immediate aftermath of a disaster; distributing financial assistance for households that need extra help in the long-term and; providing grants for community-based recovery services. VISTA Members may serve in communities near the following cities in Kentucky; Jackson, Hazard, Hindman, Pikeville, Whitesburg and Oneida. VISTAs enhance the capacity of county Long Term Recovery Groups and recovery partners, that are serving the low-income communities impacted by the flash floods that occurred in July of 2022. The work of these partners will help to prevent the disaster impacted community members from situational poverty and empower community members to lead their recovery from this disaster. VISTAs will support this by building capacity to allow for the recruitment and management of volunteers, coordination of volunteer groups, coordination of donations and construction projects, and the creation or enhancement of supporting processes and systems to improve partner group efficiency and productivity. Successful candidates will excel at solving problems, using technology, collaborating and communicating with the public, government partners, non-government partners and community organizations working in recovery. Members will gain tremendous experience in Disaster Services, Community Recovery, relationship management, project management, volunteer leadership, fundraising, donations management and general business.
