PHENND Fellows - Partnership Coordinator

PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development) is a 25-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. As part of our K-16 Partnerships Network, the PHENND VISTA project represents a 6th year of partnership with the SDP to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia. The SDP is a large urban school district that includes all public schools in Philadelphia. It encompasses 220 traditional public schools and approximately 80 charter schools. Established in 1818, it is one of the top ten largest school districts in the United States, serving close to 200,000 children. With a focus on equity, innovation and quality, Dr. William R. Hite currently serves as Superintendent of SDP, the largest public school system in Pennsylvania but will be transitioning from Superintendent at the end of June, 2022. The District will select and welcome a new Superintendent in the Spring of 2022. The District’s work will continue to be guided by overarching Goals and Guardrails. Goals are: 1) Every student reads on or above grade level; 2) Every student performs on or above grade level in math; 3) Every student will graduate ready for college and careers. The Guardrails include: 1) Every school will be a safe, welcoming and healthy place where our students, staff and community want to be and learn each day. 2) Every student will have a well-rounded education with co-curricular opportunities, including arts and athletics, integrated into the school experience. 3) Every parent and guardian will be welcomed and encouraged to be partners in their child’s school community. 4) Our students’ potential will not be limited by practices that perpetuate systemic racism and hinder student achievement.

Member Duties : This position would be the second year VISTA in a 3-year project. The VISTA will assist the Office of Strategic Partnerships (OSP) in developing systems and processes to support, convene, and gather feedback from key stakeholder groups. Over three years, this VISTA project will involve: 1) developing an infrastructure to institutionalize OSP’s Student Voice Advisory Board (SVAB), 2) establishing a clear process for new partner intake, 3) convening and outlining a project plan for managing the District’s Career Week team, and 4) convening the Volunteer Coordinator Community of Practice. This project will strengthen OSP’s ability to engage, support convene and align the work of key partner stakeholder groups. We envision the second year VISTA will support and develop our existing SVAB, strengthen OSP’s new partner intake process, support the development of a project plan for the District’s Career Week team, and convene the Volunteer Coordinator Community of Practice.
