PHENND Fellows - Artist Sustainability Program Coordinator

For more than 40 years, CFEVA has provided career development and mentoring services to the working artists of Philadelphia. We do this through fellowships, residencies, educational outreach, exhibitions, professional development, and city-wide events. CFEVA provides artists with the tangible resources needed to develop viable and sustainable careers and along the way deepens public understanding of the visual arts space in Greater Philadelphia. One of our most overarching goals is for CFEVA in the next three years to build up the capacity we have to support the local artists who are often living at poverty level, and help them be a stay in Philadelphia, contributing to the communities and neighborhoods, who in turn, benefit positively from their practice. Specifically, in our first year, the VISTA will assist CFEVA staff in the research and development phase of a draft plan towards CFEVA earning certification through the national W.A.G.E (Working Artists for the Greater Economy) Program, which publicly recognizes the contribution of artists as the critical cultural producers who deserve a fair wage for their artwork. The VISTA will be a fully integrated member our small but mighty organization, and part of all the work we do for our artist network and to brighten up every corner of the city. This includes working with us on our other core activities such as exhibit installation and visitation, art studio visits, and artist interaction.

Member Duties : The first year VISTA will focus on community outreach and research, which is the first step of our goal of meeting the standards for the W.A.G.E. program. The VISTA will collaborate with other organizations and artists participating in these programs locally and nationally to develop a short list of best practices in the art space and inform the path we need to take to put more money in the pockets of artists, while remaining financially stable as a non-profit. As we grow our understanding of the financial and program commitment needed, the VISTA will assist in determining how to raise needed revenue, develop outreach about this program, and build a sustainable structure for meeting W.A.G.E goals into year two. The VISTA will also help us with our other initiatives to promote and sell artist work. There will also be opportunities for the VISTA to engage with us through our other core activities such as exhibit installation and visitation, art studio visits, and artist interaction.
