ShareCorps Summer- Ottawa Co Family Advocacy Center
 
 
 
The Family Advocacy Center advocates for the stability and success of the children and families in Ottawa County. We carefully identify, monitor and analyze needs in the community, addressing issues by raising awareness and instituting programs to support families. We are located in a very rural county, with a lot of summer tourism, located along Lake Erie. With a geographically large county (takes an hour to drive from one side to the other), families need to make trips to us economical for them. The "grab and go" model for summer meals is extremely effective. In 2021 we served over 88,000 meals. We also operate a community garden on site to help increase the number of fresh produce we can distribute to our neighbors.

Member Duties : Our VISTA summer associate will be responsible for assisting with organization of food for packing in our takeaway bags, food inventory, and food distribution. With hopes of distributing almost 90,000 meals this summer, you will remain engaged and fulfilled throughout the service term. In addition to our meal distributions, the member can vary up their activities by working in our community garden. Duties will include: planting, harvesting, and garden maintenance. Produce gleaned from this garden will be set out at a free produce stand, where neighbors can take any produce they would like. Spend your summer by Lake Erie helping our community thrive!
