Health Systems Coordinator-Massachusetts General Hospital
 
 
 
The VISTAs will provide capacity development to a rotating set of projects that touch nearly every aspect of healthcare delivery, from pain management to hepatitis C treatment. At the time of this listing, the VISTA team has helped the Rosebud Sioux Tribe build and administer 11 health grant projects, with several more initiatives in capacity development active at the federal Indian Health Service hospital. The VISTAs help develop and implement outreach initiatives including health education at the local jail, assistance with writing grants, and connecting students interested in healthcare careers to mentors and opportunity pathways. The VISTA impact on capacity development is substantial, with over 10 full-time positions sustaining projects started through the work of past VISTA teams. AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers, to maximize their impact on developing capacity, split time between the health system (at the Indian Health Service) and tribal programs. It is a fantastic position for anyone interested in a future in medical school, health care administration, or public health. Volunteers work closely with the academic physicians who help run the partnership in the community.

Member Duties : With mentorship and support from the Massachusetts General Hospital Rural Medicine Program, empower and improve the quality of life for the Sicangu Lakota Oyate / Rosebud Sioux Tribe members and the rest of the community of the Rosebud Indian Reservation by: providing capacity development for the Sicangu Oyate health programs; supporting clinical systems strengthening for the Indian Health Service hospital and clinic; and planning and implementing health workforce development programs.
