Eco3.23 Summer Duluth Age-Friendly Capacity Building VISTA

The Duluth Age-Friendly Capacity Building VISTA will provide support to establish and grow the Duluth Age-Friendly initiative. Duluth Age-Friendly’s mission is to create, support, and sustain a community where everyone can thrive. This work will enhance the lives of older adults through outreach, awareness, advocacy, and collaborative partnerships. The AARP Age-Friendly Communities framework is designed to assist communities in making their communities more livable for older adult community members with a focus on eight specific domains of livability. The domains are transportation, social participation, housing, outdoor spaces, health services and community support, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, and communication and information. This VISTA will identify stakeholders, establish new and build on existing relationships, and participate in a leadership group to advance our age-friendly community work. In order to engage stakeholders and community members, this position will develop communication strategies and outreach opportunities throughout the community. They will organize and support community events and evaluate survey results from event surveys, focus groups, and the current ongoing needs assessment. This VISTAs work will contribute to the formation of an action plan with a special focus on support for low-income, underserved, and disabled older adults in our community.
