Summer VISTA- 577 Foundation

Are you ready to unlock people's passion and transform it to change the world? Join the 577 team where we build a creative, caring community through curiosity and lifelong learning. The 13-acre property includes historic buildings, as well as a river walk, community gardens, geodesic biodome and greenhouse, children's natural playscape, beehive and education room, butterfly hut, bird blind, outdoor stage, book center, and more. At the heart of 577 is 50 community gardening plots. The gardens are cultivated annually by community members and a portion of their plots produce yield is donated to local food pantries. Research shows that community gardens build stronger and safer communities. Successful garden programs have been found to: combat food insecurity, flight climate change, and improve community health through better nutrition and increased physical activity. This project will seek to increase the capacity and sustainability of the horticulture and community garden programs at the 577 Foundation, thereby increasing the organizations ability to provide healthy food for low-income individuals, strengthen community engagement and empowerment, and improving environmental contributions.
