Freestore Foodbank- Summer Senior Feeding

Freestore Foodbank's vision is to create a hunger-free, healthy, and thriving community. Our mission is to improve lives by eliminating hunger in partnership with our community. To achieve our mission and vision, our objectives are to provide nutritious food, connect to support services, and offer a pathway from crisis to stability. We work with a network of over 500 community partner agencies, including food pantries, shelters, schools, and healthcare providers, who assist us in distributing food within our 20 county service area. In addition to food, we also connect people to programs and services that provides support on a pathway to stability. We assist with SNAP applications and benefits enrollments. We also work with individuals to obtain birth certificates and IDs. In addition, we provide assistance with transportation, rent, and utilities. We operate two job training programs as a way to provide hands-on experience and support that allows individuals to gain skills and confidence.

Member Duties : Our VISTA will help to grow and maintain our Direct Delivery Senior Feeding efforts to be a sustainable and functional program. You will be focusing on our vulnerable senior population in Hamilton County. These seniors, many of whom do not have access to transportation are food insecure. Currently we are serving 180 seniors through direct deliveries and are receiving referrals everyday. The VISTA would assist in sending out Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) applications, recruiting new participants, delivering boxes if necessary, and assessing other food needs outside of the standard CSFP box. Be part of our team this summer and ensure our most senior residents remain supported and cared for.
