Community Organizer-Stark Co Hunger Task Force

Stark County Hunger Task Force fights hunger in Stark County through a network of 35 pantries, an on-site pantry, and a Backpack for Kids program. Our organization supports pantries by providing financial and logistical support. Our pantries can utilize our trucks for food pickup, and we cover the cost of fuel and insurance. Our pantry network is serving on average 34,000 Stark County residents each week. Our Backpack for Kids program is a weekend meal program that serves 1,400 children in 16 local schools. Our Backpacks are also distributed at several Stark Library locations and on the bookmobile. Our programs are spearheaded by a SCHTF staff member and the day-to-day operations are powered by volunteers.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will research, develop, and implement a pop-up pantry in Canton and Massillon, serving the Hispanic/Latino community. Our pantries would provide food and ingredients that are staples in Hispanic and Latino cultures. To launch the project, the VISTA member will write grants, fundraise, recruit volunteers, and rally community support, including from local businesses and foundations. The VISTA will also research ideal locations for the pop-up and consult with organizations in the Hispanic/Latino community to source volunteers. Finally, the VISTA will develop marketing materials and social media content in both Spanish and English to advertise the program in preparation for its implementation. This is a new program that will give the VISTA member an opportunity to make a lasting impact on our organization's programming. **Benefits include a $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
