People Inc ETHOS Program

People Inc. exists so that individuals with disabling conditions or other special needs have the supports they need to participate and succeed in an accepting society. People Inc is the largest human services agency in Buffalo and Rochester area, serving people with developmental disabilities, older adults and other vulnerable people. The People Inc ETHOS program has been hosting AmeriCorps members since 2019. Members serve in diverse programs, including but not limited to admissions, day programs, Deaf services, TBI program, veterans services, within our DEI office, arts program, greenhouse program and in our community and senior apartments. As an AmeriCorps member in our agency, you will become an integral part of our team, involved in the day to day services that we offer, while assessing the post-COVID needs of individuals, and providing the supports they need to get their lives back on track. Our members will work with staff, within our organization or at partner agencies, engaged in the services that are typically offered, such as therapeutic recreation programs for veterans, day habilitation services for people with ID/DD, case management services for Deaf, services for people with TBI, admissions, low income or senior housing. The members will assist staff in the delivery of services or program development. The primary focus of the service is to assess the needs of the people we serve, related to the impact of COVID19. An assessment tool is used to identify challenges the clients are experiencing along 20 life areas. The member works with the client, staff and advisors to create bridges to solutions and to develop resources. Regular peer support meetings and case conferences are held to offer guidance and training on client engagement, effective communication and tools for assessment and service delivery. ASL fluency needed for assignments with the Deaf program.
