ShareCorps-Neighborhood Services, Inc.-University Liaison

Neighborhood Services Inc is a rapidly expanding food pantry that has been serving our community since 1965. At our core, we provide a diverse array of shelf-stable food, quality refrigerated and frozen goods, various household necessities, and a selection of fresh produce every weekday to the Franklin County community. In line with our mission of combating the ill effects of poverty, we also have a strong social services wing dedicated to addressing any non-food related concern a neighbor might have, from fixing their car to paying their rent. In the last 2 years alone, we have doubled the amount of food we distribute and more than doubled the number of families we provide services to. Despite this growth in our general service, we are looking to further engage with the adjoining Ohio State campus community which represents less than 1% of our current service events. Students are up to 4 times as likely to experience food insecurity, and we want to leverage our unique geographic position to fill this community need in Ohio State's large student population. If you're looking for a passionate atmosphere to learn a lot and have a tangible impact on your community, we would love to meet you and see how you can fit our team and our mission of eradicating hunger & poverty in Franklin County.

Member Duties : The University Liaison for Food Security will work closely with Neighborhood Services Inc. (NSI) leadership to develop and implement a strategy that will increase our awareness and service to the student population. They will work with student organizations, Greek life, and the university administration to create institutional awareness of the services available in Franklin County that will continue to educate students, a population with frequent graduation and turnover. They will speak with student groups, table university events, foster professional relationships, create and post educational flyers, and learn how to effectively analyze and improve a new program as it starts. We will also work with the VISTA member to ensure their training not only meets client needs and program goals, but also matches the educational and career objectives for their future employment and unique capacities for community impact. **Benefits include a $500 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
