Gahanna Community Church-Community Programs Coordinator

Gahanna Community Congregational Church is located in the heart of Gahanna right across the street from Gahanna Lincoln High School. We have a huge focus on community-oriented programs and partnering with people and organizations that strive to make a difference in the city. The community impact programs of our church seek to alleviate poverty and food insecurity by providing fresh produce and other resources, and connecting volunteers to support people in various special populations. Our featured program is the Daily Bread Community Produce Garden that has donated over 3600 pounds of fresh produce to our local food pantry in the last three years. Service organizations from the high school, the Ohio State University, Goodwill, scouting, and more all collaborate, and the garden is still growing! We also have community programs in collaboration with a range of local organizations that focus on supporting people with developmental disabilities, returning citizens, and others. These community programs have all been growing and developing in recent years, and there is a great opportunity to help them continue their growth and development for their programming to be more ambitious in years to come. We're looking for someone to help us meet those opportunities for growth and development to help increase that community impact for the long term especially through new infrastructure and program implementation, volunteer training and recruitment, and making programs more organized and replicable.

Member Duties : As a VISTA, you'll be a key player in enhancing our program impact. Dive into developing an all-season indoor produce garden for our local food pantry. You will strengthen this program by sourcing necessary infrastructure, funding, and volunteer support. This role will also provide you the opportunity to elevate our program for citizens returning to their communities after leaving prison. You will work to equip our volunteers in empowering this population, raising awareness and gathering partners in the process. Finally, you will also replicate and expand our Goodwill Day Trip program for adults with developmental disabilities, adding additional service days to promote participants’ skills in independence and community contribution.
