Gahanna Community Congregational Church is located in the heart of Gahanna right across the street from Gahanna Lincoln High School. We have a huge focus on community-oriented programs and partnering with people and organizations that strive to make a difference in the city. The community impact programs of our church seek to alleviate poverty and food insecurity by providing fresh produce and other resources, and connecting volunteers to support people in various special populations. Our featured program is the Daily Bread Community Produce Garden that has donated over 2300 pounds of fresh produce to our local food pantry in the last two years. Service organizations from the high school, The Ohio State University, Goodwill, scouting, and more collaborate, and the garden is still growing! We also have community programs in collaboration with a range of local organizations that focus on supporting people with developmental disabilities, returning citizens, immigrants, and others. These community programs have all been growing and developing in recent years, and there is a great opportunity to help them develop the level of organization and structure to sustain and be more ambitious in years to come. We're looking for someone who will solidify and increase that community impact for the long term, especially by establishing organizational infrastructure and fostering systems to put volunteers in the best position to succeed and have a good experience. However, most importantly, we are looking for someone who will maximize the empowerment and self-sustainability of those we work with and serve.

Member Duties : The VISTA will maximize the impact of our programs by developing their infrastructure, systematizing volunteer coordination and training, and expanding programming to move beyond resource provision to the empowerment and self-sustainability of service recipients. The VISTA will expand the growing capacity of the Daily Bread Produce Garden by implementing systems for effective organizational communication and volunteer management. The VISTA will develop and recruit for garden programming to engage and equip community members experiencing food insecurity to do their own gardening and supplement their food supply. Finally, the VISTA member will create and launch programs to empower adults with developmental disabilities, individuals facing housing insecurity, returning citizens, and immigrants and refugees. The programs launched will offer services in support of job, life, and social skill development. **Benefits include a $200 housing stipend to supplement living costs.**
