PHENND Fellows - YESPhilly Career Opportunities Developer

PHENND (The Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development) is a 30-year-old consortium of over 25 colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The consortium actively seeks to revitalize local communities and promote civic responsibility through service learning among the region's higher education institutions. In 2017 PHENND adopted the Philly Fellows and have continued to foster young non-profit leaders who seek to expand the infrastructure for community partnership development across Philadelphia. The Non-Profit Tract actively builds capacity through a variety of activities in local organizations. If you want to help build sustainable solutions in Philadelphia, apply below. Youth Empowerment Services Philly is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency whose mission is to develop a broad base of opportunities for Philadelphia’s out-of-school youth to prepare them to become successful, self-sufficient adults. Since its inception, YESPhilly Accelerated High School has provided opportunities to over 200 high school drop-outs per year. We have developed an educational model that prepares students for college and careers by tying together personal development, media arts and technology skills, and academic instruction to meet Pennsylvania standards for high school.

Member Duties : The Career Opportunities Developer will develop and manage career opportunities for YESPhilly students that enable them to complete a required graduation pathway. Our students are Opportunity Youth, with 90% of them from high poverty households that often lack access to information, resources, and opportunities to help them out of poverty. The VISTA will help students explore and identify their career interests through completion of surveys, workshops, and visits to training programs, employers, and colleges. Based on their interests, the VISTA will help students choose various opportunities to complete their graduation pathway that may include industry-recognized certifications, a service-learning project that directly benefits a community, and completion of an internship. The VISTA will work with YESPhilly’s FT Transitions Coordinator to expand YESPhilly’s network of providers and opportunities that allow students to complete their graduation pathways based on their career interests.
