Refugee Community Integration VISTA

RAIS is the only refugee resettlement program in Alaska. We serve over 500 clients from 27 countries. RAIS offers core services of case management and employment services which assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency. Health programs facilitate health screenings, medical case management, and health education. The Refugee Agricultural Partnership Program operates two farms in Anchorage through the summer and revenue generating ventures outside the growing season. RAIS also has specific programing for school age children, youth (15-24), and older refugees (60+). The RAIS staff is diverse and speaks over 10 languages. RAIS provides a bridge for refugees (individuals who have had to flee their countries of origin due to the tragedies of persecution and war, these people often suffer from extreme poverty) from their former life experiences to the new skills required for success in the United States. Through a focus on economic self-sufficiency, community integration, and a respect for unique cultures, history, and traditions, RAIS creates an environment of compassion and encouragement for refugees to flourish and escape poverty. In federal FY 22, RAIS enrolled 497 new arrivals from 8 different countries. and assisted 77 clients with job placements with an average starting wage of $16.09. 91% of clients retained their employment for at least 90 days.

Member Duties : Increase refugee well being and connection to community through increased community partnerships by identifying organizations that could partner with RAIS to increase refugee well-being and sense of belonging in the community, connecting with organizations to develop community integration curriculum which could be offered to refugee populations living in Alaska both in person and/or virtually. Increase community volunteerism at RAIS by researching volunteer programs for refugee populations across the resettlement network. Develop volunteer descriptions for new volunteer positions developed from research. Design and implement a targeted volunteer recruitment that drives qualified and energized volunteers to sign up. Create, update, and manage volunteer tracking system in RAIS database Increase in kind giving to benefit refugee clients by assessing current outreach strategies and develop a plan to build new partnerships with community organizations not currently established.
