Catholic Charities is the primary social service arm of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. As a human service organization serving Western Pennsylvania, Catholic Charities is missioned to assist families and individuals, regardless of religious affiliation, at their time of great need. One of our long-standing and impactful programs is the operations of the St. Joseph House of Hospitality. St. Joe’s is a 59 room facility for men ages 50 and older with limited income, who: are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Residents have access to comprehensive case management, including connections to medical care, substance abuse treatment, veterans assistance, housing services and job opportunities. They also receive three full meals a day, linen services, and access to basic needs resources such as clothing, hygiene items, and recreational activities.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps Members will use the FDIC’s Money Smart curriculum to provide financial education that will influence and enhance a client’s financial skills and ability to create positive banking relationships. The AmeriCorps Member will utilize volunteers to role play, translate learning materials, act as an assistant instructor to ensure a high level of client engagement. The AmeriCorps member will administer pre/post surveys at the beginning and the end of each educational experience to assess the knowledge increase of clients after participating in the module. AmeriCorps members working at St. Joes are expected to engage residents on a level that promotes self-sufficiency and progress on their service plan and financial goals. Members will also work closely with the Financial Empowerment Center and Utilize their resources.
