United Way of Vermillion Volunteer Recruitment and Training

United Way of Vermillion operates the Community Connection Center (CCC), a one-stop-shop for people in need in Clay County, South Dakota, a college community where nearly one third of the population lives in poverty. The VISTA will work with organizations within and outside of the CCC to develop a sustainable volunteer recruitment and placement process, as well as designing several volunteer training workshops. An enhanced volunteer recruitment and training program will support more robust programming, and the VISTA will have the opportunity to gain skills in research and community organizing. This position affords the opportunity to make a measurable impact in the lives of those in need as a part of a passionate and energetic team. You will need excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, the ability to work well with others and an interest in problem solving and innovative thinking. In addition to the AmeriCorps living allowance, health coverage, and educational award, the VISTA will be eligible for housing assistance up to $200 per month, training, and organization sponsored travel to other sites for research. The VISTA will have access to the services of the CCC, including the Vermillion Food Pantry and the weekly Welcome Table community meal. Vermillion, South Dakota is a small but welcoming community located on the bluffs of the Missouri National Recreational River, with ample access to hiking, fishing, and boating. The community itself is easily traversable by bicycle or on foot, and public transit is available. We are within two hours of several mid-sized airports and an AMTRAK station.
