TSC VISTA 2023: Syracuse Poster Project

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members, will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA Leaders.

Member Duties : The Syracuse Poster Project brings together poets and artists to create an annual series of civic art posters for display in Syracuse. Each poster features an illustration based on a short poem about the downtown, the city at large, or the nearby countryside. The Project generates community and a sense of place through civic poster art, develops ways for poster art to sustain itself, and gives local poets and artists opportunities to develop their craft. The Public Arts and Poetry VISTA will build organizational capacity and help with the succession of the Project's leadership. The VISTA will recruit interns from area colleges and youth workers through job readiness programs. The VISTA will also document work processes, compile training manuals, support grant-writing efforts, and refine donor campaigns. Additionally, the VISTA will cultivate partnerships and community sponsors, fundraise for special initiatives, and help with marketing development.
