TSC VISTA 2023: Independent Health Foundation

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of low-income communities. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in New York State and across the country. During their term of service members, will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA Leaders.

Member Duties : The Independent Health Foundation (IHF) creates community programs that engage residents in healthy lifestyle behaviors. IHF’s Good for the Neighborhood (GFTN) is a free, community-based wellness initiative created in 2006 to bring health awareness training and tools to people in at-risk and underserved neighborhoods, where access to healthcare is limited due to social and economic barriers. The VISTA will enhance the impact of the GFTN Turn-key program to effectively maintain partnerships, establish new relationships, and implement GFTN in underserved areas. The VISTA’s capacity building efforts would allow for the establishment of two additional GFTN sites, which would ultimately broaden the populations to be served and have a deeper positive impact on the improvement of these community members’ health and wellbeing.
