Minneapolis Environmental Justice Coordinator

Promise Zones are high poverty communities where the federal government partners with local leaders to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities, leverage private investment, reduce violent crime, enhance public health and address other priorities identified by the community. Low-income, and BIPOC people in North Minneapolis experience unequal health, wealth, employment, and education outcomes, and are overburdened by environmental conditions such as pollution, brownfields, blight and substandard housing. The purpose of the Northside Green Zone (NGZ) is to address the environmental inequities in North Minneapolis, by implementing an action plan to improve environmental and population health; social, economic, and environmental justice. The NGZ Task Force created an action plan for air, water and land, housing, green workforce, engagement/education, healthy food access, and community healing/violence prevention.
