Austin Resource Recovery Repair Education VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps Members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Partner with the Austin Public Library to address accessibility and educational needs for repair in Austin's low-income communities and communities of color. Develop programming templates for repair events and workshops. Identify what parameters of the curriculum each department should be responsible for and create a system to track programming results. Pilot programming with at least 3 library branches. Improve Austin Public Library’s Tool Library and create a partnership between it and Austin Resource Recovery’s repair programs. Identify barriers to expansion and propose recommendations. Develop a 5-year community-wide repair roadmap for Austin. Determine which repair programs meet the City’s needs, which need improvement, and which need to be further developed. Determine the urgency of each need and which programs address which needs. Develop a programming plan that prioritizes the needs of low-income communities and communities of color.
