Eco3.23 Community Engagement and Response VISTA - CHUM

CHUM is the largest provider of emergency services in Northeastern Minnesota. Entering its 50th year of operations in 2023, CHUM has grown from a small group of downtown churches to serving over 8,000 low-income, homeless and hungry individuals a year through its shelter and drop-in center, permanent housing programs, food shelves and emergency winter warming center. It is also a founding member agency of an ambitious 5-year plan to respond to unsheltered homelessness, which aims to increase shelter capacity by 100 beds and permanent supportive housing by 200 units over the coming 5 years. As an Americorps VISTA member, you will interact with all departments of CHUM to help develop and streamline a process to recruit and train community volunteers in order for CHUM to more effectively respond to growing need in our community. The VISTA member will be part of the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA cohort serving in northeastern Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, all cohort members will participate in VISTA specific activities such as regular cohort meetings, collaborative projects, professional development opportunities, and trainings.
