NLADA - Reentry Coalition Coordinator, PA
 
 
 
Because the quality of justice in America should not depend on how much money a person has, National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) leads public defenders, community advocates, and civil attorneys to advance justice and expand opportunity for all by promoting excellent delivery of legal services for people who cannot afford counsel. NLADA’s AmeriCorps VISTA program, Defending Communities in Service, builds sustainable community relationships, data systems, and practices that allow public defender offices to more holistically support communities in need. In this position, NLADA has partnered with the Public Defender Office of Delaware County, PA. Delaware County has undergone a reckoning over the past three years to reimagine what reentry could mean. As part of this, the Public Defender’s Office has joined the Reentry Coalition to ensure that their clients’ voices are heard. This position will be on the ground and building relationships across the area to improve access to resources for people coming home from incarceration. Member Duties : The NLADA VISTA member will work with Public Defender to improve access to reentry resources for individuals returning to our community and engage community in defense-related efforts. We are looking for someone with a deep commitment to social justice, a degree of independent initiative, and the capacity and desire to engage with a broad spectrum of our community. Day-to-day tasks include providing coordination and communication support to Delaware County’s new Reentry Coalition, coordinating and running reentry simulations with policy-makers and community members, helping to develop a participatory defense hub, and increasing opportunities for individuals to expunge their criminal records and seek pardons.
