Capacity Building to End Homelessness - Detroit Phoenix Cent

The Detroit Phoenix Center provides critical resources, wraparound support, and a safe, nurturing environment to teens and young adults in the Detroit area that are transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. DPC provides those in crisis immediate respite from the elements using housing vouchers and support with basic needs. DPC is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member to increase outreach toward the chronically under-identified homeless student population in Detroit schools. The VISTA would increase the organization's capacity to address the homeless youth population by creating space for DPC in the school systems through the creation of an outreach plan and strategy to reach more youth. Service benefits include: a living allowance of $17,600, health benefits, childcare benefits (eligibility based), an option of a $6,495 education award or $1,800 cash stipend, non-competitive eligibility for 12 months following service, and $400/month housing stipend (paid directly to a landlord/mortgage provider). Questions about the position and VISTA service can be sent to site supervisor Chantel Hicks at chicks@detroitphoenixcenter.org and AmeriCorps program director Kelli Beavers at kbeavers@mihomeless.org.
