Women in Transitions - Small Business Development Refugees
 
 
 
The Women in Transition Initiative is a collaboration between Benevolence Farm, Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, and AmeriCorps VISTA CNCS which focuses on employment and workforce development by using agricultural social enterprise programs as a tool for overcoming and preventing poverty. The initiative seeks to ensure that North Carolina women facing major transitions (refugees, immigrants, formerly incarcerated) gain the educational and professional skills needed to improve their economic situation. This opportunity and position will work directly with Transplanting Traditions, a non-profit organization that works throughout North Carolina that works to provide new American families access to land, healthy food and agricultural and entrepreneurial opportunities. The AmeriCorps VISTA position will be based in Western North Carolina in Henderson County. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to justice, equity and have experience working with people from diverse cultures, ethnicity, races, religion, language, socioeconomic groups, and educational backgrounds. Relevant experience with non-profits, farming are ideal. Experience in marketing and design is a plus. Strong communication skills are essential for success, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Candidates are expected to have excellent organizational and time management skills, the ability to multitask and be able to work both collaboratively and independently. Flexibility, adaptability, humility and openness to new situations are necessary. Knowledge of food justice, sustainable agriculture or refugee resettlement are a plus. Spanish and English fluency reading, writing and spoken is required.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA Market Access Coordinator will help build capacity for Transplanting Traditions Community Farm to support an extended network of refugee and immigrant farmers to grow and improve their farm businesses. This will be achieved through researching potential avenues for marketing, developing key partnerships, creating training and capacity building materials, developing marketing materials, facilitating a business planning process and conducting progress evaluations with partner farmers. This position will require some travel between farm sites.
