Genesis Youth Foundation Operations Assistant

The VISTA member working with Genesis Youth Foundation (GYF) will help manage the academic, enrichment and athletic programs of an expanding non-profit organization that serves youth and families from the immigrant and refugee communities within the greater Des Moines area. This person will take what previous VISTA members have built and expand the programs and systems. They will help guide and maintain the systems and help recruit individuals to manage the systems. The VISTA member will be working on developing curriculum and volunteer procedures for all programs within GYF. They will help recruit volunteers to increase the capacity of GYF and use implemented training systems and documents to educate volunteers and staff members in how GYF operates, is sustained, its culture, mission, and where GYF will go moving forward. The VISTA will work towards creating a system to help manage the information within GYF so the collection and storage of forms/information is easier. They will work in collaboration with GYF team members to plan events, manage documents/information, assist in program planning and outreach to communities and families. The VISTA member will work to overcome language, cultural, financial, and transportation barriers to maintain a functional system that allows the underserved communities to have opportunities athletically and academically. This position will remain open until the ideal candidate is found. The start date is flexible. There is an option of some virtual service work however candidate must live in or around the Des Moines area.

Member Duties : The position with GYF encourages leadership development and problem solving skills in order to adapt to unique communities in Des Moines, Iowa. The VISTA member will serve as a liaison between the volunteer community, the GYF staff and community members. The VISTA will work with the community, volunteers, and GYF staff to coordinate and provide academic, enrichment and athletic opportunities to youth who would otherwise be denied the opportunities due to the inability (economically and culturally) to obtain resources that would empower them to be successful. Individuals will assist in event planning, youth academic/athletic program preparation and management, and volunteer recruitment/management. VISTA’s will engage and establish connections with a unique community within the greater Des Moines area with the primary goal to empower youth and families with opportunities and education, in order for them to become successful citizens.
