VAC Food Programs Development VISTA
 
 
 
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville is seeking a VISTA member to serve with the Full Circle Food Pantry (FC) and Razorback Food Recovery (RFR) programs to expand food assistance models and the programs’ participation in the regional food system. The CCE mission is “Empowering students to become engaged citizens through service, experiential learning, and practicing social value.” The CCE is a department of the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Arkansas and is home to the Volunteer Action Center (VAC) student group. CCE staff advises and facilitates the work of the VAC, which includes these signature programs; Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Food Pantry, Razorback Food Recovery, Dream BIG: Believing in Girls, PAL: Passionate about Literacy, Be BOLD: Brave, Outstanding, Loving, Determined, and Student Engagement. The CCE is seeking a VISTA member to advance the work of Full Circle and RFR and seek out new initiatives to contribute to the regional food system. The Food Programs VISTA will work to build the capacity of programs within the Volunteer Action Center and the Center for Community Engagement with the overall goal of serving marginalized communities and alleviating poverty in Northwest Arkansas through expanding food assistance programs and building a network of community partners to strengthen food systems. The member will advise VAC student leaders. The member will also help to grow and adapt existing programs including food recovery and access to food assistance. The member will also focus on building partnerships with other agencies in the region to build capacity for comprehensive assistance resources, food distribution and recovery networks, and to share information and collaborate. The VISTA will build the capacity of the VAC student leaders and the program models to support expanded and new initiatives.

Member Duties : Food Programs VISTA duties will include: Directly advising student leaders on program development and management strategies. Helping student leaders in setting goals, creating work plans, and meeting regularly with student teams to move projects forward and measure progress to goals. Developing the capacity of student teams to carry out work on identified priorities. Seek and develop new partnerships for sourcing a variety of fresh and nutritious food items for Full Circle and RFR. Assist RFR in securing new sources of recovered food and exploring new program delivery models to fit changing food availability and distribution needs. Work with students to develop a program to promote access and awareness to federal and state assistance programs including SNAP and WIC. Guide the creation of an assessment program to measure a broad range of factors related to programs effectiveness and student learning. And communicating with staff, students, community partners and other involved parties.
