Austin CPIO Community Safety Connector VISTA
 
 
 
The City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program works with City departments and local nonprofits to build capacity, in order to provide resources and services to the Austin neighborhoods and communities that may otherwise be left behind by Austin's historic disparities and future growth. The AmeriCorps Members serving with the City of Austin AmeriCorps VISTA Program work in such diverse fields as education, health, waste reduction, and housing to cover the myriad ways poverty affects these neighborhoods and communities.

Member Duties : Draft a citywide Community Safety Connector program proposal to serve as a guide for the development and implementation of the program. This program will support education and engagement around community safety before, during and after disasters for BIPOC communities, non-English speaking residents, and other communities in need. Research, analyze and compile data on existing Community Safety Connectors programs in the US. Coordinate meetings with various community stakeholders to collect ideas and best practices for improving the flow of communication, community outreach, and engagement around disasters. Identify and record key elements needed to design and launch such a program. Work closely with the Language Access program manager to draft the proposal and presentation to Public Information Office and Homeland Security leadership. Create mechanisms and processes that would support the launch of the Community Safety Connector program.
