United Way of Lake County

Do you want to help transform how people address the challenges that life brings? 211 is Lake County's one-stop helpline! 211 has made more than 150,000 connections for help. Fewer people are homeless, more women are safe from domestic violence and more children have food on their tables. Be a part of a team that is providing an invaluable service with an undeniable impact on the county’s most vulnerable residents. The VISTA will work with UWLC’s team committed to providing those in need access to critical information and resources. 211 is Lake County’s only centralized resource that supplies navigation to find help and support. 211’s service area includes many low-income communities with a high percentage of families without the literacy skills/English proficiency needed to access information, navigate eligibility, and connect to services and resources. The VISTA will support 211 with the development of new tools for outreach and training; grow the 211 volunteer ambassador base and identify strategies to address the needs of local communities of color. United Way of Lake County is a dynamic team of skilled professionals dedicated to serving Lake County children and families. Lake County is located in northeastern Illinois, with Lake Michigan to the east, Wisconsin to the north and the City of Chicago to the south. Lake County is a vibrant, growing county made of diverse adults and families. The county's communities include picturesque rural communities, highly developed urban centers, and tourist communities. Together, by raising awareness, building trust and expanding the outreach of UWLC 211 to our target low income and underrepresented communities we will connect people in need with a wide range of available resources that improve and save lives.
