NCNMEDD_Mora County_Fire Recovery and 100% Community VISTA

In spring 2022 rural Mora County experienced the devastating Calf Canyon/Hermit's Peak wildfire. The county was already struggling with capacity, poverty, and economic development, and the fire has exacerbated those issues. The VISTA volunteer will work closely with County leadership, and local, state and federal partners in two focus areas: disaster recovery lines of effort and the 10 community health and wellness focus areas identified by the 100% New Mexico effort. The VISTA volunteer will coordinate with local and regional non-profits to identify volunteer opportunities, create a volunteer database, and establish an ongoing program for directing volunteers to needy projects or persons in and around Mora; will participate in and support the Rural Communities Assistance Corporation (RCAC) with wildfire and flood disaster recovery planning for the County; and will support the 100% Mora team in their community building work.

Member Duties : The VISTA will support the 100% Mora community team in their efforts. Youth has been identified as the first priority area of work for the group. The VISTA will develop a volunteer program for disaster recovery by assembling a list of projects or programs that need volunteers, recruiting volunteers, and setting up a system to track volunteer hours that the County can use as in-kind match for disaster recovery funding. The VISTA will support the Rural Communities Assistance Corporation (RCAC) in wildfire/flood recovery planning, and will engage with a wide variety of local, state, and federal partners in the recovery planning process, and will research funding opportunities for implementing priority projects.
