Part Time Tutor - ASPIRE NJ

Our mission is simple: to serve humanity in distress, aid local communities, and assist people in transformational change through the power of innovation by mobilizing partners, donors, and volunteers. Since its launch in 2016, Sewa North Jersey has made strides in filling in the gaps in our local communities. ASPIRE NJ is an initiative that focuses efforts on providing educational opportunities to those who would benefit the most. Our AmeriCorps members will work to address problems in the Newark Public School District associated with low academic achievement, low post secondary and graduation rates, and low attendance rates. Middle and high school students in the district face challenges in academic achievement, social-emotional skill acquisition, positive lifestyle choices, attendance, and higher education attainment. Recognizing certain gaps and scope for change within Newark, the objective of initiating ASPIRE is to empower and inspire children to learn and to accomplish their dreams. We aim to make students more responsible citizens, improve their possibilities of higher education, and enable them to confidently pursue and find success. ASPIRE NJ is a free after school program that serves the holistic development of students. Our centers are safe, goal-oriented classroom settings for students to grow academically and socially-emotionally through mindfulness, meditation, tutoring, mentoring, workshops, field trips, guest speakers, and more. We will have two batches, one consisting of sixth graders attending Dr. William H. Horton Elementary and another of ninth graders attending Central High School. Each batch will meet on the premises of the school they attend every single weekday after school from 3 to 6 pm. Saturdays will be used for field trips, community service projects, guest speakers, and updates to member training.
