Digital Corps Member

The ability to use technology directly impacts full participation in society. According to the National Digital Inclusion Alliance, Kansas City, Missouri, was one of the “Worst Connected Cities” in 2019 with over 30% of its population lacking cable, DSL, or fiber internet, evidence of the community's profound digital divide. This lack of access has a negative impact on an individual's ability to fully benefit from educational resources and economic opportunities. The Library's Tech Access department works with communities to provide digital skills training and troubleshooting for anyone from beginner to advanced levels. Digital Corps members will work as digital guides helping individuals navigate the digital landscape, obtain digital literacy skills, and find needed government benefits and community services. The Library's Digital Corps will provide instruction as well as resource navigation support and guidance.

Member Duties : Digital Corps members will: Conduct drop-in sessions at Library branches to provide patrons with needed technology, employment, and benefits-related support and guidance; Conduct one-on-one appointments with Library patrons; Use online resources to assess the digital learning needs of each participant and connect with the appropriate modules; Teach and/or assist with technology-focused classes in the community.
