Afterschool STEM Coach - Alaska Afterschool Network

STEM Coaches may serve for a summer, a semester, or an entire year. Part-time and full-time opportunities are available statewide, and no prior experience in STEM or childhood development is necessary to apply! In addition to professional development, networking opportunities, and experience working in the education field, STEM Coaches receive a cash stipend and an education scholarship for their hours of service. Apply today to jumpstart your career while making a difference in your community! The mission of the Alaska Afterschool Network is to support and strengthen afterschool programs that serve children, youth, and families throughout Alaska. Research shows that afterschool programs increase student attendance, grades, and graduation rates; decrease expulsions; increase self-esteem, causing a reduction in suicide; and build the protective factors needed for children to overcome trauma. The Alaska Afterschool Network AmeriCorps Program contributes to the mission by placing STEM Coaches at afterschool or summer programs in Alaska, where they serve as STEM Coaches for K-5 youth. STEM Coaches address learning loss resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic by providing academic STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and SEL (social emotional learning) learning to K-5 youth. The STEM Coach program is a project of the Million Girls Moonshot (MGM) Initiative to engage one million more girls in STEM. STEM Coaches will bring MGM resources and curricula to their program, increase the number of STEM learning opportunities offered - including the number of girl-centric STEM learning opportunities - and engage diverse role models from STEM career fields to guide students in career exploration.
