Addiction Recovery Advocate - Exciting Motorsports Nonprofit

Feel the ground rumble under your feet as you go about doing good at one of the endless motorsports events Backroads of Appalachia has become known for in Eastern KY. Not only do you rub shoulders with other enthusiasts but you get to build your resume and experience at the same time. Backroads has truly grown by leaps and bounds as cities and locals clamor in hopes of becoming the next location for their events. Backroads caters to a variety of motorsports; motorcycles, hill climbing, rally racing, supercars with many other genres added every year. This is the world you will get to surround yourself with while performing good work for communities and individuals in addiction recovery programs. Eastern Kentucky has been hard hit by the downturn of coal in recent times. So many communities that have used coal as their main industry for work have found themselves struggling to transition into more sustainable industries. Backroads is instrumental in this transformation by promoting tourism throughout the region and hosting nationally recognized motorsports events. As people from outside the state have come to see Eastern Kentucky and it’s warm, ready to work culture it has attracted not only dollars but permanent investments. As the Addiction Recovery Developer VISTA you will be developing a plan to help Backroads use practices that support individuals in recovery and help develop a healthy recovery ecosystem in communities served by Backroads. You will also develop training materials and a plan to help Backroads become more supportive of participants in recovery. In addition you will work with partners and community organizations to identify resources and help develop a support system for those in recovery to develop a supportive recovery ecosystem within the Backroads organization. This incredible opportunity will not just shape Backroads but shape the entire region as you get to remove the many stigmas and barriers surrounding employing those in recovery.
