Mentor Program Coordinator - Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline

MENTOR Virginia is seeking to place an AmeriCorps VISTA member with the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline (GSVSC) in Roanoke, VA. GSVSC serves kindergarten through 12th-grade girls with programs focusing on STEM, life skills, entrepreneurship, and outdoor adventures. For over 110 years, the Girl Scouts have encouraged leadership development in girls in the region. GSVSC programs are designed for Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree or some college experience encouraged, preferably a Girl Scout alum and/or an individual familiar with GSVSC and the Roanoke region. GSVSC is seeking a self-initiative individual with the ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds and experience in volunteering, mentoring, and/or within the nonprofit sector. Good organizational, communication, and writing skills are a plus. We encourage individuals interested in joining the AmeriCorps VISTA program to apply even if all qualifications are not met. Benefits: The VISTA member is paid an annual living stipend based on the city where the sponsor is located (MENTOR Virginia is located in Richmond), which is estimated at $21,063.84. AmeriCorps VISTA members will receive either a $6,895 education award or a $1,800 cash stipend after they complete a year of service. Federal student loan forbearance, health care, childcare, and some relocation expenses are available. VISTA members will receive training through AmeriCorps and MENTOR Virginia. Upon completion of a year of service, VISTA members earn Federal non-competitive eligibility (NCE), which gives them an edge in the federal hiring process. If you want to find out more about the process to join the AmeriCorps VISTA program with MVA, contact Sindy Montalvo, MENTOR Virginia’s Marketing/Communications & AmeriCorps Program Manager at sindy@mentorva.org.
