Bozeman Public Schools Homeless Student Interventions

Bozeman Public Schools exist to provide an outstanding education that inspires young people from the City of Bozeman, and ensures high achievement so that every student can succeed and make a difference in a rapidly changing world community. The goal of this project is to support homeless students in accessing education. This includes building systems that will assist homeless students and families in accessing basic needs such as food, school supplies, winter gear, and hygiene items. With community support and education, students and families will be able to secure housing and move out of poverty. Through the capacity building services provided by the VISTA, Bozeman public schools will evaluate and formalize procedures and documents for educating students and their families about local resources and for providing interventions to students experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.
