*MTCC MSU Northern Teachers of Promise Pathways

The Teachers of Promise Pathways (TOPP) program at Montana State University Northern is an initiative to empower more high school students to explore options for obtaining teaching degrees by providing students with a smooth transition to regional educator preparation programs and connecting them with cost-effective mechanisms to sustain success. The goal of this project is to address a critical shortage of educators in the rural communities of northeastern Montana. By ensuring that all interested high school students have a clear pathway to following their education goals, young people at risk of poverty will be given a career path which will develop into a self-sustaining program in which teachers returning to rural communities from the TOPP program will be able to inspire the next generation of educators to follow in their footsteps. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.
