VYDC-Bennington Museum Education & Engagement part-time
 
 
 
The fulltime & part-time members of the VT Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) implement diverse youth initiatives, fostering positive development & building resilience to help youth avoid opioid misuse & other unhealthy behaviors, transcend the effects of COVID-19, and the gain academic, social, & job skills needed to thrive. Website: VermontYouthAmeriCorps.org SITE: Bennington Museum engages and transforms our visitors and community by connecting them to the region’s diverse arts, rich history, unique landscape, and culture of innovation through year-round exhibitions and programming for all ages. Our programs and initiatives include the Bennington Historical Society (free lecture series); Music at the Museum and Concerts in the Courtyard (free musical events); Museum ABCs (free preschool literacy initiative); Teacher’s Institute (continued education for educators); Education outreach (K-12); George Aiken Wildflower Nature Trail (free public access); workshops led by regional artisans; exhibitions relating to the 49,000 objects in our permanent collection; and changing shows by regional artists or on historical topics throughout the year. The Education and Community Engagement AmeriCorps Member collaborates on programs and events for K-12 grade students and teachers, families, and adult community members that advance the Museum’s mission, expand critical partnerships, and encourage deeper engagement with diverse audiences. COVID-19: During the height of the pandemic, schools were closed, and thus the Museum was unable to offer our regular programming. The AmeriCorps member supports both short-term and long-term recovery efforts by implementing innovative programs for all ages, building community connections, and increasing our capacity to address the gap in the educational experience due to COVID-19. Location: Bennington, VT.

Member Duties : The VYDC-Bennington Museum Education & Engagement Member collaborates on programs & events for K-12 grade students and teachers, families, community members, & adults that advance the Museum’s mission, expand community partnerships, & encourage deeper engagement with diverse audiences. The member engages in the following activities: (1) researches, develops, & teaches programs for a range of audiences from families to adults; (2) performs community & school outreach, helping to develop & maintain relationships with partner organizations; (3) teaches K-12 school groups; (4) plans & facilitates family programs & community events; (4) assists with public programs for adults; and (5) engages in capacity building that supports & advances Bennington Museum’s mission & strategic goals. Minimum Age: 22. Travel: local to events (within 15 mi.) and monthly to AmeriCorps training (Montpelier); reliable private transportation.
