Arizona Project WET Water Educator UACE Coconino County

Under the direction of the Arizona Project WET (APW) Coconino County Program Coordinator, qualified applicants will be trained to become part of a team of Water Educators. The primary purpose of the Water Educator is to deliver locally relevant water education programs to Flagstaff-area school districts. These programs include: Healthy Forests/Healthy Watersheds presentations; Groundwater Flow Model presentations to 3rd and 6th grade classrooms; Water Scene Investigation for 6th-12th grade classrooms; Arizona Water Festivals for 4th grade classrooms; Building a Rain Garden; Plant Superheroes unit presentations (plant adaptations, forest ecology, gardening and rain basins); STEM education activities at public outreach and school and community STEM events. All necessary training is provided through Arizona Project WET. Candidates should have a strong interest in inquiry-based water education. Basic knowledge of educational principles and methods should be enhanced with creativity and flexibility. Strong communication skills are a must, along with the ability to translate technical information into age-appropriate presentations. Availability during school hours (7:30 AM – 2:00 PM) AT LEAST 2 MORNINGS (M-F) is a requirement. As an AmeriCorps member with AZ Project WET you will be developing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) literacy in students and teachers. You will be serving your community by promoting an understanding of Arizona’s water resources and issues. Ultimately, this understanding will build an ethic of water conservation and stewardship among students, teachers and other community members.
