VISTA Grief Support Development Coordinator

United General District 304 serves northern and eastern Skagit County, WA as a public hospital district focused on developing and maintaining health & wellbeing at all stages of life. Rooted: Grieving & Growing Together (Rooted) was founded with the support of a VISTA member and centers on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grieve a death in a supportive and understanding environment. Based on the world-renowned Dougy Center model of bereavement support, Rooted’s peer-led programming offers space for children, teens, and families to share their experiences and move through the healing process in community with each other. Rooted operates under United General District 304’s vision of Building Healthier Communities, with priority outcomes achieved through the following program areas (which align with the CNCS goals of healthy futures): Active Living, Community & Professional Education, Engaged Youth & Communities, Healthy Eating, Thriving Children & Families, and Stewarding Assets & Opportunities. These program areas cumulatively create an environment and foster protective factors that promote wellbeing. An AmeriCorps VISTA will support Rooted’s sustainability and enhance program reach through capacity and relationship-building efforts that help cultivate a grief-informed community.
