EHCEC Disaster Preparedness VISTA
 
 
 
East Harris County Empowerment Council's mission is to improve the quality of life through innovative, sustainable programs and services that empower men, women, and youth to achieve their full potential. The VISTA project will seek to overcome economic, educational, and health and wellness challenges by developing and building capacity in new and existing programs to provide access to and awareness of resources and opportunities through community-lead efforts and expects to benefit 17,000 low-opportunity, high-need adults and youth in east Harris County. VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as identifying community access points for capacity building, developing and improving EHCEC resource development through an increased network of volunteers and business leaders, and developing innovative ways to improve healthy futures with increased community collaborations.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will fight poverty in East Harris County by first developing an understanding of the community through community surveys and feedback sessions, data collection, and sustaining current partnerships with low-income assistance programs. The Disaster Preparedness VISTA will strengthen East Harris County community's disaster resilience by conducting assessments, building partnerships, and implementing educational programs. This aims to ensure the community is better prepared to respond to and recover from disasters, ultimately enhancing its overall safety and well-being and increasing healthy futures.
