The Center for Urban Ecology and Sustainability (CUES) at Butler University is a leader in community-engaged projects that improve environmental sustainability and work toward social justice. Our mission is to research, educate, partner, and empower our community in the establishment of best practices in urban ecology and sustainability that benefit society, the environment, and the economy. We seek applicants who are dedicated to community building, sustainability, and social justice. In this position, you will improve environmental wellbeing and food access in the Indianapolis community by co-developing sustainability and social justice projects with community partners and operationalizing projects through the CUES Sustainability Leadership Cohort. In turn, you will develop community collaboration skills, gain experience in project development, and join a network of social justice advocates. This position is based in Indianapolis, in the Mid-North Community; a low-income, primarily Black or African American community that has been subject to decades of injustice and disenfranchisement resulting in environmental injustice and food apartheid. This VISTA project seeks to improve the lives of individuals by establishing community-driven projects that are supported by Butler University expertise and student capital. The Community Partnership Liaison VISTA will: 1. develop partnership guidelines 2. create assessments for student learning and community partnership outcomes 3. design implicit bias and anti-racism training materials 4. co-create projects with community partners that improve food access and environmental health 5. plan for continuing partnerships beyond the one-year VISTA term You will be one of two VISTA members serving with the CUES. Both VISTA member positions will work together to achieve the goals and duties outlined. The CUES Assistant Director will provide mentoring and professional development opportunities during your term.
