Broome County Council of Churches Food Security Advocate
 
 
 
Rural Health Network SCNY (RHN)'s mission is to advance the health and well-being of rural people and communities. The RHN VISTA program, Rural Health Service Corps, will seek to eliminate poverty in the proposed service areas, and expects to benefit program participants, community members, and host organizations. Twenty VISTA members total will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as strategic planning, research, grant writing, training, volunteer management, and coalition building over the course of the next year.

Member Duties : The Broome County Council of Churches (the Council) Food Security Advocate will have a lead role in resource development efforts to support healthy futures through our efforts to eliminate food insecurity working with the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) and our non-profit grocery store the Greater Good Grocery (GGG). There will also be a focus on ensuring older adults have access to appropriate foods through Chop-n Chat classes held in Broome County. The Food Security Advocate’s efforts will focus on assisting with: Collaboration/ Working side-by-side with program directors’ in all phases of food sourcing and navigation to support and grow the Council’s food focused programming. The creation and distribution of written appeals, newsletters and grants to provide education and financial support for programming. Assisting with the recruitment , orientation and supervision of volunteers to support the Council’s food-focused work in Broome County.
