Multiple Locations, Alaska - APDA SAME Justice Program

The Alaska Public Defender Agency (APDA) provides constitutionally mandated legal representation to low-income justice-involved Alaskans. AmeriCorps members work with clients to address their non-legal needs. Members serve in 8 communities across the state, assisting clients primarily with accessing substance use disorder treatment, housing, and public assistance. The program’s long-term objective is to decrease both incarceration rates and recidivism. We are looking for candidates who have the desire and ability to advocate for justice-involved individuals experiencing poverty. Experience working with underserved populations and/or in a professional setting is preferred. Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old, no criminal history, and US citizens or lawful permanent residents. High school diploma is required, a 4-yr college degree is preferred. We are looking for candidates who can interact in a professional, nonjudgmental, and empathetic manner with a diverse range of clients and colleagues.
