Aspen Youth Center Community Relations and Capacity Building

The clubs and activities we offer allow youth to interact with one another and experience positive, catalytic events within a supportive, mentoring environment, thereby developing increased social skills and self-esteem. When children have adequate levels of confidence and self-esteem, the chances that they will form healthy relationships at home and at school greatly increase. This in turn, makes them better able to resist peer pressure to engage in risky behaviors. Additionally, children with higher self-esteem are more likely to develop a positive future sense of self, which is a strong indicator of whether or not an individual will be successful in life. The AmeriCorps VISTA Member will help this amazing organization by increasing community awareness, including assisting in outreach to the Latinx community, communities from Aspen to Parachute, the LGBTQ+ community, and the school districts. The VISTA will also research and write grants, and create sponsorship opportunities to expand program offerings. Aspen Youth Center has an exceptional staff that is caring, thoughtful, and able to provide quality mentorship. Children who feel that they have caring adults in their lives feel better about themselves, make better choices, and have a higher chance of being happy and successful in life.
